Abstract

This research is motivated by several problems, including the lack of students' understanding and creativity due to the inappropriate strategies implemented by teachers during the learning process. The proposed solution to this problem is the application of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) strategy in the learning process. The aim of this study is to improve students’ learning activities and teacher engagement during the teaching process, as well as to assess the impact of the CTL strategy on students’ understanding and creativity after participating in learning activities using this approach. The research method used is quantitative. The research subjects consisted of 30 eleventh-grade students at SMK Efata. The results of the study indicate that the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) strategy positively influences students’ understanding and creativity in learning Front Office materials. A difference was observed in students’ levels of understanding and creativity before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the implementation of the CTL strategy. The development of students’ understanding and creativity at SMK Efata improved following the application of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) strategy. The average score for students' understanding increased from 40.53 to 51.67, while the average score for students' creativity rose from 39.6 to 71.33.
